Heathcliff

Please, come in. Take a seat.
Can I get you some tea, some water?
His voice is still smooth
and his accent is still strong
just as if he'd never left us

I would choke on an answer;
I just shake my head - "no"
and we're seated

the walls are too bright in here
where are we?
couldn't be...
the land down under

He still looks young, vibrant
His hair curls about his face,
dark and healthy,
while mine lays flat and matted
against dull skin
an outsider observing the two of us
may not choose correctly which of us is dead:
he is so radiant in the afterlife

Heathcliff -
can I call you that?
do you mind?

I don't believe what they say!
I scream and my lungs tear

I watched you slowly kill yourself on screen
bit my lips, couldn't breathe
the only person sobbing
at a super hero movie

"haunting" they call your performance

HAUNTING
the day haunts me:

January 22nd, 2008
they find your naked body,
lifeless and limp

You had so much left to give, but how could it be an accident? How can they know this was not your intention? How can they know that this, that this -

I don't believe what they say!

silence.
a smile.
he stands, kisses my cheek
gently

His voice is still smooth
and his accent is still strong
just as if he's never left us

just as if he'd never left,
he says:

Would this all have mattered
if I weren't a star?
